The Moroccan ports, as the primary link in the logistical chain dedicated WORD
to the Kingdom’s foreign trade, are fully exposed to the adverse impacts
of climate change. Three major developments induced by climate change OF THE GENERAL
concerning port infrastructures are: the rise in average sea levels, alterations MANAGER
in river flows, and the increased frequency and intensity of storms. These
consequences are manifold: heightened risk of flooding, changes in the OF THE ANP
hydro-sedimentary dynamics of estuaries, coastal erosion, increased
stress on port structures (such as dikes), and a potential alteration in the
distribution areas of certain species. Significant impacts are to be feared on
vulnerable coastal infrastructures and communities reliant on fishing and
trade.
Given the ports’ strategic positioning, climate change represents, more than
ever, a wave of threats laden with genuine risks for businesses, operations,
security, and infrastructure. Consequently, this poses a risk to the continuity
and evolution of economic activities at the local, national, and international
levels. The vulnerability of ports and port activities to climate change will
undoubtedly have far-reaching economic impacts, notably in disrupting
port and maritime transport operations, national and international trade,
and supply chains.
Aware of these risks, the National Ports Agency places the sustainability
of port operations it manages at the heart of its strategic plans and at
the forefront of its action plans. It is worth noting that the support and
contributions from national and international financiers act as catalysts in Nadia LARAKI
shaping, coordinating, and accelerating the implementation of projects
aimed at anchoring and strengthening the climate resilience of Moroccan General Manager
